Great question, Warren. Yes we've been conducting social media monitoring for a number of major brands/companies in Alaska this past year. The logical first step in any social media strategy is to "listen first," and that is exactly where we've started. Through monitoring conversations we have indentifed opportunities for engagement and are now helping our clients take a well planned step into social media rather than a fearful plunge.

Big client, small client, the approach is the same - strategy BEFORE tactics, clear objectives, plan (budget) for it and follow-through. You are right - set a goal and go ahead with your project. Good luck, and looking forward to hearing how the launch goes.

Great post, Dr. Clarke. Now all that aside, what if a client is a project client with long-term strategy you can't touch (yet) and a "small" budget? And they're keen on social media and it seems appropriate for their service. Do I ignore social media? Jay Baer would say to set a goal and go ahead with a project. Which we're doing. I'll let you know how that goes.

Any experience to share, Alaska or otherwise, with social media projects?
